Telrad Finder Sight

Telrad Finder Sight

Telrad Finder Sight

The easiest way to aim a telescope. The view seen through the window of the Telrad is continuous with the sky around it, not magnified or upside down. Three rings are lighted and appear to lie among the stars. The small ring outlines the Moon-sized area seen in the telescope. The large outer ring outlines the area seen in a standard Finderscope. To point your telescope, just look through the Telrad and move the telescope until the rings are centered on the object. The Telrad is 8 inches long. Weighs 11 ounces and mounts on any telescope without drilling any holes. It unlocks from its base for separate storage. Requires 2 AA batteries (not included).

Excellent finder for ATM Telescope Project5
I bought this after trying several other "DIY" finder scope solutions: rifle scope (eye relief too long, field of view too small) 10x50 binoculars (too cumbersome), drinking straw (field of view too small), sighting down the edge of the rocker box (really awkward). FYI it comes with a mounting plate that attaches to the scope body with the included double sided foam tape. The finder is then attached to the mount plate by two thumbscrews. P.S. The red circles can be turned up bright enough for daytime use too!

This product made my telescope incredibly more user friendly. I would recommend this to anyone using a non-goto scope. If you know even just a few constellations, you can find many objects that you could not find before. The variable intensity is worth it alone.

OH NO, This thing is HUGE! It Doesn't need to be this HUGE!3
The Telrad Finder works very well for what its design to do. My beef with this finder is the enormous size of it. IT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THIS HUGE! The unit is 8.5" Long by 4.5" Tall at the sight. When you open the unit to put the batteries in you see a cavernous body of wasted space. I'll need to take my Camera mount off just to fit trhis unit. If your scope is less than 15" long (ie ETX 125 is too small), I would pass this finder up. It's strictly for the BIG BOYS. I did some measuring of the wasted space and it could be re designed down to 4" x 3" with absolutely no loss in optics or finding ability. If you have a small personal telescope, I'd search for RED DOT finders.
